History

Welcome to the Elderton Presbyterian Church

The Elderton Presbyterian Church is rich in history and tradition. Our service to both Elderton and the surrounding communities in Armstrong and Indiana Counties has been evident for over 150 years. While our congregation dates back to the 1800’s, the current church is the result of a merger with the Whitesburg and Elderton United Presbyterian churches in the early 1960’s. The church building has undergone several renovations and expansions. The Elderton Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.) and is very involved in the mission and leadership of our local presbytery, as well as the denomination as a whole. We actively engage in local and global missions, supporting projects and individuals throughout the world.

We are proud of our heritage and witness throughout the years and are blessed that God continues to work through us providing a witness of hope to the people of our area and beyond. Over 25 years ago, our congregation had a vision to develop a quality preschool program for our region. We are pleased that the Butterfly Hill Preschool has been blessed by God throughout the years and has grown to be a vital part of our community. We have prepared an annual dramatic musical production, the Cantata, during the Easter season, for nearly a decade. This presentation has boldly proclaimed the Gospel message to thousands of people. We also are deeply involved in children and youth ministries, operating numerous church-based programs and partnering with local school and community groups to provide service and support to area families.

Currently, we are preparing our congregation for service in the 21st century; modernizing our facility, innovating our music and worship, and designing an interactive, user friendly, web-based ministry. While we strive to be current and relevant to our modern day climate and culture, we remain rooted in our values and constant in our faith. Our rich heritage and tradition is not a relic of the past, but the foundation upon which our future is built.

We invite you to be a part of the family of faith that is the Elderton Presbyterian Church. May the joy of our Lord Jesus Christ be in your hearts now and always, and may you share it with all that you may meet.
